CHARDON, Ohio - The mother of Chardon High School shooting victim Demetrius Hewlin said she forgives suspected gunman TJ Lane.

Phyllis Ferguson's son was one of three students killed following a deadly shooting Monday morning in the school's cafeteria.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News' "Good Morning America," Ferguson said she "would tell him I forgive him because, a lot of times. They don't know what they're doing. That's all I'd say and forgive him."

Ferguson said her son was, "loved and he was loving and kind, huggy, kissy. A mama's boy. He was a real kind person. He was so sweet." She said he was a bit of a health nut, who worked out often and also donated his time to Habitat for Humanity.

She described her son as not being a morning person and was often late for school. But he wasn't Monday.

"We were running a little late, but we weren't late enough. But it's OK. It's in God's hands. Let his will be done," Ferguson said. She said he was close friends with Daniel Parmertor, 16, and Russell King Jr., 17, who also died as a result of the shooting.

Hewlin's mother is honoring her son's wishes, who went to get a state ID card and became a registered organ donor at the age of 13.

"For one Demetrius, there's eight people he can help," she said. Hewlin's mother echoed the sentiments of Chardon Superintendent Joe Bergant, who told parents and teachers to hug their children.

"Hug your child everyday. I didn't," she said, adding that her son would scrunch up his face when she told him she loved him.
