SANDUSKY, Ohio - A fiery crash at a home on Perkins Avenue in Sandusky left two people dead.

According to the Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a Ford F-150 truck was driving westbound on Perkins Avenue when it went off the right side of the road.

The truck traveled through a yard and hit a tree, throwing the driver and Bradley Vickery, 30, from the truck. The vehicle then spun around and crashed into a house, which set both on fire.

The driver and passenger were both killed. The five people in the home at the time, including a 2-year-old boy, were not injured.

"I was sleeping downstairs in the basement and I just heard a really big boom," said resident Michelle Blanton.

She also told NewsChannel5 she and her four family members escaped safely.

"It was very scary. I'm just glad my son is alive."

Next door neighbor, Jill Beal, witnessed the house catch fire.

"If the tree wasn't there, that's my house. And that's my kids bedroom. That's what I think of," Beal explained.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident. According to officials, speed likely played a role in the crash.

OSP also said seatbelts were not worn by the driver or passenger.

Vickery was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, by the Sandusky Fire Department, where he later died from his injuries.

Officials have not yet identified the driver of the truck. The Erie County Coroner told NewsChannel5 his body was badly burned, so dental records will be used to identify him.
