SANDUSKY, Ohio - Cedar Point said it’s removing its long-running roller coaster that allowed riders to experience a thrill one car at a time.
The company said the WildCat roller coaster will be removed prior to the opening of the park to make way for the expansion of its new “Celebration Plaza.”
“WildCat was coming to the end of its useful life. With the desired expansion of Celebration Plaza, coupled with the low ridership and increased maintenance costs, Cedar Point has decided to accelerate the removal of the ride,” said Cedar Point in a news release.
The park plans to send the coater’s materials to a recycling facility.
The WildCat had a top speed of 40 mph and its highest point was feet above the ground during a 1-minute 25-second ride. Each car held up to four riders.
Here are other improvements Cedar Point said visitors can expect this year:
- State-of-the-art lighting packages on Giant Wheel, Millennium Force and Power Tower
- New sound and lighting system along the park's Main Midway
- Re-painting of the Millennium Force and Blue Streak roller coasters
