VERMILION, Ohio - A 4-year-old girl is in critical condition at a local hospital after police said her mother accidentally ran her over with a riding lawnmower.
According to Vermilion police, the incident happened just after 4 p.m. on Monday in the 3600 block of Jerusalem Road.
Cpl. Rick Riggs said Cadence Justice, 4, was playing in the yard while her mom cut the grass. Police said the mom put the mower in reverse, but didn't see her daughter behind her. Justice was knocked down by the grass cutter and her feet got stuck under the blades, authorities said.
Justice was flown via helicopter to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
"Cadence's left foot and ankle had to be amputated," explained Vermillion Police Officer Sean Bailey.
Justice also lost four toes on her right foot. Doctors are trying to save her big toe.
Meanwhile, doctors believe Justice will recover from the incident.
