WESTLAKE, Ohio - Westlake police have ended the search for a missing 14-year-old student after the girl was found safe Sunday afternoon.
Devon Smith, 14, is now back at home with her family, according to police.
Authorities said Smith was found under the deck of a neighbor's home, after the neighbor spotted clothing near it and called police.
Smith has minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for an exam, a news release from Westlake police said.
The Hathaway Brown 8th grader was reported missing from her Muirfield Way home around 8 p.m. Friday.
"We appreciate the tremendous outpouring of help we have received from the HB community and from the broader community as well,” said a memo on Hathaway Brown’s website. “Needless to say, we are profoundly grateful that Devon is home and that so many of you have supported the efforts to help us reach this happy resolution."
The case remains under investigation.
