CLEVELAND - After U.S. Marshals arrested one of “America’s Most Wanted,” authorities still need help figuring out the real name of the man known as "Bobby Thompson."

Thompson was apprehended after two years on the run in Portland, Ore. on Monday. He currently sits in the Cuyahoga County Jail, where he was indicted on 22 counts in 2010.

From 2005 to 2010, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office said Thompson, which is an alias, collected about $2 million from Ohioans for a fake charity. The United States Navy Veterans Association also solicited millions more from victims in 40 other states. Thompson is charged with theft, fraud, identity theft and money laundering.

According to U.S. Marshals, Thompson has refused to tell authorities his real name and searches of fingerprint databases turned up negative results. On booking sheets, Thompson signed by simply writing “X.” He is also known for changing his appearance.

"It's my right under the U.S. Constitution not to make any statements,” Thompson told Marshals when he was placed in handcuffs, according to U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott.

While searching a storage facility rented under one of Thompson’s many fake names, agents found a suitcase full of birth certificates and another with nearly $1 million, Marshals said. When he was arrested, he had several IDs from the United States and Canada with him.

Marshals said someone knows the true identity of Thompson. Anyone with information should called 1-866-4-WANTED, or text “WANTED” to 847411. Tips can remain anonymous and there may be a cash reward.

Thompson’s associate, Blanca Contreras, was sentenced to five years in prison last year. She pleaded guilty to money laundering and tampering with records as well as other charges.
