DanburyTownship - The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a train collision with a vehicle and a pedestrian Sunday morning.
According the OSHP, around 4:55 a.m. Tiffany Fischer’s vehicle stopped operating while crossing the Norfolk and Southern Railroad Crossing located in Danbury Township at South Danbury Road in Ottawa County.
Fischer, 33, of Rocky River, Ohio saw the 72 car train headed towards her and exited the vehicle attempting to flag the train engineer to stop, but it was too late.
The train struck Fischer’s Honda Accord. The force of the collision caused the car spin counterclockwise, striking Fischer.
Fischer and her vehicle were pushed off the tracks near the crossing and the train came to a stop approximately 2100 feet east of the crossing. She sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by the Toledo St. Vincent life flight to the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by officers from Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Danbury Police Department, Lakeside Fire and EMS, the Marblehead Fire Department, and representatives of the Norfolk and Southern Railroad.
The crash remains under investigation.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Charges are pending at this time.
