SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - Police say a 26-year-old man didn't take his medication and then locked himself in his house late Wednesday night.  They tried several tactics before they were able to get him out.

Police responded to a home on Sutton Place in Shaker Heights around 10:15pm Wednesday after getting a call that the man inside had not taken his medication and wouldn't come out of the house.

The Beachwood Police swat team was on-scene negotiating. They used a loudspeaker, urging the man to come out. The man's mother even got on the loudspeaker urging her son to come out and said “we are going to help you!”

Finally police fired tear gas inside the home. After the tear gas was sprayed, the man came out.

Police say he was taken in for a psychiatric evaluation.

Police searched the home. No weapons were found. Police say they’ve have had a similar situation with this person before. Neighbors told us the same thing.

Streets near the home were shut down here for a few hours. One neighbor told us police called were calling people urging them to stay inside.
