STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - Early Thursday morning, Strongsville teachers set up in front of Center Middle School to picket on day four of the teachers' strike.

Tensions between the teachers' union and school officials seem to be growing after an unsuccessful meeting Wednesday night. Neither side is willing to budge on their contract proposals.

Thursday morning, more police and more security guards were stationed in the parking lot of the school.

One teacher told police he was struck by a car coming into the lot.

A fellow teacher on the picket lines yelled to the car saying, "you left a tire mark on his leg."

That teacher who was allegedly hit didn't appear to be majorly injured, but left the picket lines to file a police report at the Strongsville Police Station. The Strongsville police log said that a person was struck by a car and police were called out to investigate around 6:17 a.m.

Throughout the morning, police warned the teachers picketing to move out of the driveway as the substitute teachers reported to school. The teachers continued to picket in front of that entryway. At times, they got out of the way. Other times, they were slow to move.

The police log noted an incident at 5:09 a.m. that 30 protestors were blocking a driveway, were told to move and were back out in the same spot again.

Strongsville teacher Ian Steffen was arrested in this area Wednesday morning. He was taken to jail for allegedly blocking traffic and charged with disorderly conduct.

Thursday morning, Steffen was back on the picket lines in the same location. He told NewsChannel5 "no comment."
