PARMA, Ohio - Parma Community General Hospital is currently recruiting volunteers to be part of the fall class of spiritual care aides. Now in their 18th year, aides provide comfort to patients and their families in the Emergency Room and Surgery Waiting Room.
Spiritual care aides also visit patients in their rooms, provide directions and information to visitors and stand in for clergy when a family's priest or minister is unavailable.
Volunteers go through a 12-week training session that covers techniques of communication, professionalism, confidentiality and medical ethics. Training will begin in September for those accepted into the program.
