AKRON, Ohio - One of five men charged with plotting to blow up the Brecksville bridge has pleaded guilty and will testify against his 4 co-defendants.
Anthony "Tony" Hayne, 35, pleaded guilty in Akron Federal Court during a pretrial conference Wednesday morning and faces 15-19 years in prison when sentenced.
Hayne has also agreed to testify against the other four alleged plotters, if necessary, during their trial proceedings which are slated to begin Sept. 17.
His attorney, Michael O'Shea, said his client hopes to get leniency in return for his testimony.
The men, all described by the government as self-proclaimed anarchists, are charged with plotting to blow up the Brecksville High Level bridge in April. They allegedly were working with an FBI informant who provided a dud explosive.
Hayne pleaded guilty to conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction and malicious use of explosive devices to destroy property used in interstate commerce.
A sentencing date for Hayne is not yet known.
