NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio - A house fire in North Royalton caused a major roadway to be closed at rush hour Wednesday.

The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. on Royalton Road (Route 82), just east of State Road.

According to the North Royalton Fire Department, the homeowner and a dog got out safely. The homeowner said she saw sparks in the basement and called 911.

Damage to the home was contained to the basement and first floor.

There’s no word yet what caused the fire.

In order to fight the fire, though, firefighters had to close off Route 82 between State Road and Broadview Road, which extends into Broadview Heights. Traffic was rerouted for several hours, but the road reopened a little after 6 p.m.
