NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio - Interstate 480 reopened after a crash closed the eastbound lanes just east of Great Northern Boulevard for about two hours early Friday morning.
North Olmsted police said that a small four-door vehicle was traveling eastbound at about 12:15 a.m. when the driver lost control, stuck a median wall and crashed into a tractor-trailer.
The vehicle became partially trapped under the semi. Police said it appeared the side protective skirt on the trailer may have kept the vehicle from traveling further under trailer, potentially reducing the amount of damage and injuries sustained.
The 23-year-old driver was transported to Fairview Hospital. A 20-year-old passenger was trapped inside and had to be rescued by North Olmsted firefighters. She was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The semi driver was not injured. The highway reopened at 2:15 a.m.
Alcohol is not suspect in the crash. Rain and wet roads may have been a factor.
