SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner says two people, a man and a woman, died early Tuesday morning in a house fire in Shaker Heights.
Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Johnson said five other residents were rescued and transported to the hospital after the family of seven's two-story home went up in flames. Two firefighters also sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One of the firefighters was from Shaker Heights.
The fire broke out at about 4 a.m. at 3333 Daleford Road. Daleford is closed between Fernway Road and Van Aken Boulevard.
The call came in at 4:01 a.m. and Johnson said firefighters arrived at 4:05 a.m.
Euclid, Cleveland, East Cleveland and Richmond Heights Fire Departments assisted in battling the fire.
A neighbor told NewsChannel5's Kristin Byrne that he heard screams coming from the house. He said officials were already at the scene. He said the family of seven recently moved in.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started.
Officials are not releasing the names of the victims until the next-of-kin can be notified.
