WESTLAKE, Ohio - The man who escaped from a Missouri detention center was arrested in Westlake Wednesday afternoon.
Brian James Adkison, 23, was wanted for rape and burglary, and escaped from the Caldwell County Detention Center in Kingston, Mo. on Aug. 10. He was awaiting charges of kidnapping, domestic violence and violating a protection order involving his ex-girlfriend.
Westlake police said Adkison was spotted on Tuesday at a Hampton Inn on Detroit Road, but fled from officers. Police found the truck he was driving, which was reported stolen in West Virginia.
On Wednesday at about 1 p.m., a resident saw the fugitive riding a bicycle on Detroit Road near Cahoon Road. Police said he ducked into the woods, and with the help of other police departments, they set up a perimeter.
Several minutes later, Adkison was seen inside the Huntington Woods nursing home, where a maintenance worker put him in a headlock until police arrived.
Caldwell County Sheriff Jerry Galloway told ABC 17 News in Columbia, Mo. he is thankful to the residents and law enforcement of Ohio for capturing Adkison. According to Westlake police, no local charges against him have been filed.
ABC 17 News reported Adkison was also the center of a nearly week-long manhunt at the Lake of the Ozarks earlier this year.
Adkison's former girlfriend tweeted after the capture, stating: "Brian Adkison is back in custody. God is good!"
