CLEVELAND - A 67-year-old Mayfield Heights man is accused of illegally accessing patient health information at a local hospital.

A three-count indictment charges Henry Thrasher, 67, violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Thrasher allegedly gained access to a local hospital's computer system, obtaining information for numerous patients. Then, he reportedly shared the protected information "with malicious and harmful intent," to another person, according to the filed paperwork.

The hospital where the alleged incidents happened was not released.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael Collyer and Chelsea Rice, following investigation by the FBI.
