BEACHWOOD, Ohio - Even though it was snowy and cold outside Sunday, triathletes from all over northeast Ohio gathered at the Mandel Jewish Community Center in Beachwood for some friendly competition with the intent of helping families in need.
The Mandel JCC hosted its fifth annual indoor triathlon. Over 100 athletes of all ages competed in swimming, biking and running competitions.
The indoor traithlon was established to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
All participants were encouraged to receive sponsorships from friends and family.
Proceeds from the event will help provide financial assistance to needy families who want to send their children to JCC summer camps.
Scott Spero, of Beachwood, took part in the triathlon with his sons Jack and Joseph. The boys learned some valuable lessons by participating.
"It shows the importance of eating healthy, staying in shape, and it shows them a little sense of what friendly competition is all about," said Spero.
The competition was held in the JCC's state-of-the art fitness center, which recently underwent an $18 million renovation and expansion.
