EAST CLEVELAND - A man was slashed with a knife and shot inside his home during a home invasion in East Cleveland Tuesday evening.
Police said it happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Hampton Road near Shaw Avenue.
Officers said the victim, identified as Jason Smith, was initially taken to University Hospital then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of a shotgun wound. He underwent surgery Wednesday morning and is still listed in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation showed that Smith, despite personal risk, caused several diversionary tactics to allow his family to flee the residence.
