NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio - North Royalton police said a man shooting off fireworks in his yard ended up catching his grass on fire which forced a road closure over the weekend.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night in the 16000 block of W. 130th St. Police said a neighbor called, reporting the problem.
For a short time, the road had to be shutdown as firefighters from multiple communities aided in putting the flames out.
Damage was limited to brush and ground vegetation along a ravine in the man's yard.
The 42-year-old man, whose name has not been released, told authorities he tried to contain the fireworks blaze using his garden hose, but wasn't able to. He was arrested at the scene.
The homeowner is set to soon appear in Mayor's Court, facing a misdemeanor count of discharging fireworks.
All remaining fireworks were confiscated by authorities.
Communities, and law enforcement, have expressed concern recently with home fireworks displays because of the extremely dry ground which poses a high fire risk.
