CLEVELAND - A Lakewood man was sentenced to life in prison in the death of a 2-year-old boy.
Michael Burton, 31, was babysitting the neighbor’s toddler, Anthony Dabila, at an apartment on Robin Avenue in Lakewood on Jan. 21, 2011, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason said.
When the toddler’s mother came home, the child was not breathing. She called police and the boy was taken to Lakewood Hospital by paramedics, where he later died.
Prosecutors said the child died from asphyxia, and also suffered blunt force trauma to his head, stomach and limbs.
Burton pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder. Judge Pamela Barker sentenced him to life in prison with the eligibility for parole in 20 years.
