EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio - Volunteers teamed up to build a new playground for kids in East Cleveland Saturday.

“This is Cleveland at it’s best.  Everyone working together for the good of the community,” said Vanessa Whiting, President of the Cleveland chapter of Jack and Jill Of America.

Jack and Jill of America is a national organization that works to develop young leaders.

Members joined forces with the Mayor and other local organizations to build a playground at Forest Hill Park.

“Our focus this year is on healthy living and we want to give the children and families of East Cleveland an exciting and wonderful play space so they can exercise and keep health,” said Whiting.

The playground will include both gym equipment and musical instruments like a permanent drum set and a xylophone.

Volunteers of all ages came together to help build the new playground.

“It’s also important for our children to know that it’s important for them to give back to the community,” said Whiting.

Organizations involved in the project include:

-Jack and Jill of America

-Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity

-Home Depot

-AES Corp, Lightning Demolition

-Local Masonic Lodges
