EUCLID, Ohio - A German Shepherd remains stuck on the ice of Lake Erie Thursday night.

Euclid police said officers and firefighters have been out to the coast near East 260th Street and Lakeshore Avenue to try to get the dog. However, while the ice is solid enough to support the animal, police said it will not hold a person.

Officers said they are concerned that if they go out on the ice, it will break and send the pooch into the water. For now, police and firefighters have decided to let the dog come back on its own when it’s hungry.

Authorities are also trying to keep people from going out on the ice to try to save the German Shepherd.

The Coast Guard has also been alerted of the situation.
