GRAFTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Rescue crews surrounding Grafton Township were called out for a water rescue Saturday morning.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol officers on scene, authorities were called around 7:21 a.m. for a car into a pond at Mennel Road and SR 57. According to witnesses and evidence, the teenage driver ran a stop sign at Mennel Road and State Route 57 before driving off the road and into a partially frozen pond.
The vehicle was completely submerged in approximately 10 feet of water when rescue crews arrived. The vehicle was located underwater after an hour of searching. Dive team crews located the teen's body inside the vehicle and pulled him from the water.
Crews began treating the victim on scene and called LifeFlight to transport the male to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Dominic Zunis, 18, of Elyria, Ohio.
After pulling Zunis from the pond, crews continued to search for any other parties involved. It was determined that Zunis was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
State Route 57 was closed at Mennel Road for several hours before reopening around Noon.
