MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Cuyahoga County Bed Bug Task Force holds third annual bed bug education conference in Middleburg Heights Thursday.
The 2012 conference will be the third annual conference hosted by the Task Force and will be held at the Grace Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 7393 Pearl Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, 44130.
Over 400 people attended last year's conference organizers brought a greater awareness of bed bug infestations.
With the increase in bed bug activity in northeast Ohio, local health officials and pest control operators have had to respond to a dramatic increase in bed bug related complaints. According to organizers, along with residential settings, anyone who owns, manages or works in places where people gather should be aware of basic bed bug prevention and response strategies. Bed bugs can be found in office buildings, retail stores, hospitals, dormitories, nursing homes, libraries, movie theaters, and even on buses or other modes of transportation utilized by the public.
To help deal with the growing local concern with bed bugs, a number of interested parties representing local health departments, organizations and businesses impacted by or directly involved in bed bug response and control began to meet and work together to create a local task force in early 2010.
Since that time, organizers said the CCBBTF has routinely met to discuss current bed bug related news and issues and to identify methods of improving the dissemination of education and guidance on the prevention, detection and elimination of bed bug infestations. Meetings have typically been held on a monthly basis at the offices of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.
