PARMA, Ohio - The closed Parma Theater could find new life.
A community meeting is set for Thursday evening to discuss the fate of Parma’s landmark theater that would preserve its historical importance in the city.
The meeting takes place at the Polish Banquet Hall on Ridge Road at 6:30 in the evening. Parma Councilwoman Debbie Lime arranged it.
The Parma Theater closed on Sunday, September 9 after serving audiences since 1936. Theater management said the decision was made due to declining attendance and a drop in revenue for 3-D family movies. The city said it was unaware of the decision until it happened.
Thursday’s meeting comes in response to the widespread community feedback about the theater’s closing.
A couple Parma residents started an online movement to develop a plan that would save the theater from redevelopment and possibly reopen its doors with some sort of historical purpose. It could eventually become a movie house.
An online movement started, creating the website: www.saveparmatheater.org/ . A Facebook group also grew, and it currently has more than 800 “likes” at www.facebook.com/saveparmatheater .
