SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The U.S. Coast Guard continues their search for a missing 13-year-old boy who jumped off of a barge and into Lake Erie Friday evening.
According to the USGC, crews searched throughout the evening and day, Saturday. They are planning to continue that search into Sunday as well.
Several local departments added to the search effort throughout the day. The Coast Guard brought in a C130 long range surveillance aircraft from North Carolina and an additional helicopter from Air Station Detroit.
Saybrook Township's Fire Chief, Saturday, described some complications in the search.
"The weather last night and the amount of movement in the water, even on the bottom where we were searching, made it difficult for something to stay in one spot and I think that's part of our issue right now," said Chief John Jyurovat.
The teen went missing in the lake near Saybrook Township Park Friday night.
State Route 531 in Saybrook Township between Myers Rd. and Ninevah is expected to be closed while the search is underway.
