Chase suspect crashed car in Parma, punched police K-9, officers say

PARMA, Ohio - The suspect in Sunday’s police chase in Parma repeatedly punched a police K-9, officers said.

The chase started on Brookpark Road when a Parma police officer spotted a man diving 60 mph and tried to pull him over. Police said the 23-year-old driver crashed into a building near Broadview and Spring roads, then took off on foot.

During the foot chase, the suspect punched the K-9 several times in the dog’s ribs, according to police. Tyson, the police dog, did not suffer any major injuries, but he is sore. Assaulting a police K-9 is a felony charge.

The police dog did bite the suspect, who was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. He is being treated for bite wounds and injuries from the crash.

The suspect’s name has not been released. He facing charges for fleeing.
