BAY VILLAGE, Ohio - A Bay Square restaurant reports a phony Illuminating Company representative calling to say their business would have its power turned off if their bill wasn't immediately paid.

The business owner said she paid the bill online earlier in the week, but wasn't sure it went through.

The man on the phone advised she buy a pre-paid credit card, give him the number and pay the bill again.

Not long after that, the owner checked on her payment online and found it went through the first time. That's when she realized she had been scammed.

Police advise not making any payment to someone unless you confirm they are with the company they claim to represent.
