AVON, Ohio - City of Avon crews opened intersections Wednesday north of its new interchange project on Nagle Road.

At 9 a.m., Avon crews opened three key areas of formerly detoured roads according to project manager Don Damyanic. According to Damyanic, roads opened were: Chester Road from Lear Industrial Parkway to Nagel Road. Also opened, Imagine Drive from Nagel Road to the east project limits. Nagel Road from Chester Road to the north project limits.

Damyanic said the temporary roads built to keep traffic clear of crews working for safety will now be closed to traffic.

"That allowed traffic to be detoured around the project and avoid dangers to us and their own cars," said Damyanic.

ODOT crews will maintain the access areas of the two new exit ramps on each side of the interchange, but this was solely Avon's project. Public information officer Christine Myers said their concern is regarding safety around the site for all crews until it is completed.

"There have been some problems with some drivers not paying attention to the barrels off of I-90. Our concern is always for the safety of our crews and those on the highway," said Myers.

The new exits are to be opened by New Year's Day.
