SOLON, Ohio - Multiple officers' described a party that was broken up at Grantwood Golf Course in Solon late Friday as a parking lot filled with chaos .
Officers rolled their police cruiser's dash cams as they entered the Solon-owned parking lot of Grantwood. The reports detailed screaming teens fleeing the parking lot, numerous empty alcoholic beverages strewn about and minors seen partially clothed in the back seat of a 2000 Ford Explorer.
Solon Police Lt. Bruce Felton said officers responded to a 911 call from the course's evening manager, who requested backup immediately because of the amount of people there.
"There was evidence of underage drinking, evidence of individuals smoking marijuana and just a really big party that was way out of control,” Felton said.
Grantwood workers, who had three venues that night with parties filled with people, made the call after one of them noticed two security guards at the party drinking beer, according to police. Normally, off-duty Solon officers are reserved by anyone reserving and renting a pavilion. The family of the teen who threw the party decided to hire their own security, according to administrators at Grantwood.
According to the police report, the event was posted on Twitter and Facebook as an “electrofoam” party, with a $10 cover charge. Someone helping out with the party told police about 750 people had been there. The redacted police report is more than 20 pages long.
Police said portable breath analyzers were administered well into the early morning of July 2,1 leading to five juveniles, ages 16 to 17, being arrested on various charges. Their fate will be decided by the Solon juvenile officer.
Five adults were also arrested, according to Solon police. They will all have court dates in Bedford Municipal Court.
The adults arrested and charged are listed as:
- Timothy Duran, 18, of Solon - drug abuse
- Andrew Krall, 19, of Pennsylvania - drug abuse
- Michael T. Omaley, 18, of Shaker Heights - underage consumption
- Cameron Greene, 19, of Macedonia - underage consumption of alcohol, obstructing official business, illegal possession of drug paraphernalia
- Matthew Michael Paul, 19, of Macedonia - underage possession of alcohol.
Grantwood Director Don Holub, who is also the Director of Recreation in Solon, expressed that Grantwood does not sponsor events like the July 20 teen party. They rent venues and have adults sign an agreement. Many are reserved a year in advance, or longer.
"This family will not be invited back," said Holub. "However, strangely, the last two times they rented the pavilion, including this one, it was left in pristine condition after each party, as was the parking lot. We gave them back their deposit of $75.00 last time and probably will this time. The deposit is for the time it takes to clean up after many of the parties booked here. We didn't have to do a thing the morning after. But, not being there to supervise their child's party is why they will not be allowed to book here in the future."
