SOLON, Ohio - School security consultant Ken Trump has been a busy man since the shootings at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut.
He receives hundreds of emails a day and is booked for months as school districts attempt to ensure that their schools are safe.
"It isn't a question of whether Sandy Hook's a wake-up call," he said. "The question is do you hit the snooze button and go back to sleep."
Trump spoke at a town hall meeting at Solon High School Monday night. He's performing a safety check-up in the Solon district, which he says has been on top of school safety for years.
"We have to refresh employees' and students' memories," Superintendent Joe Regano said.
Trump is against arming teachers to take on intruders. He said we need to focus on fundamentals, like keeping school doors locked.
"I've been in school districts where they're talking about arming teachers and custodians," he said, "but yet you can still walk through the doors that are open and people don't say 'Good morning, can I help you?'"
Trump said the best defense is a well-trained, highly-alert staff and student body.
