PARMA, Ohio - Ever since Parma Theater closed its doors in September, residents and businesses have felt a void in Parma's Polish Village neighborhood.

Parma councilwoman Deborah Lime is doing her part to save the historic building near Ridge and Snow roads.

Lime introduced a resolution at Monday's Parma City Council meeting to begin the process of making Parma Theater a historic preservation site at the local level.

"The idea behind it is to save the theater, to save it at the building that it is now and the great building that it once was for the community and to keep a part of Parma's history here in the community," Lime said.

While the fire in November set things back a bit, a grass roots campaign is under way to raise money to purchase the theater and renovate it as a potential arts center for Parma and the region.

"I really think that it can be the catalyst in helping to bring jobs to the area and helping to make no more vacant store fronts and really help to vitalize the neighborhood," Lime said.

The resolution will next go before the Parma Planning Commission for discussion.

Parma police told newsnet5.com Tuesday that they are still searching for whoever set fire to Parma Theater. Multiple tips have been called in but none have panned out. If you have any information that would help in the investigation, please contact Parma police.
