CLEVELAND - Cleveland police are beefing up patrols, using non-traditional policing and assigning detective to the robbery squad to solve robberies.
“Negligible increase, nothing extremely out of the ordinary, but we want to drive those numbers down,” said Cleveland First District Commander Thomas McCartney.
At about midnight Saturday, Jared Fox was walking to a bar on West 93rd Street and Detroit Avenue when he was attacked by a group of young people. Fox said they shouted anti-gay slurs at him.
“I thought I was going to die. In fact, one of the kids said do you want to die,” Fox said. Fox, who was a high school English teacher, now works in education in New York City. He’s a Cleveland native who was visiting when the attack happened.
This was not the only robbery in the area recently. Police said a juvenile was attacked by a group of young people Monday evening. His cellphone was stolen.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the First District at 216-623-5118.
