Local teen dies after a fight, another teen is charged with murder

Warrensville Heights - Warrensville Heights Police continue their investigation into the death of 16-year-old Shaakira Dorsey. According to police, Dorsey had been in a fight with another teenager when she later collapsed and then died at Ahuja Medical Center. 

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office said the other teenager involved is now charged with murder and is due in juvenile court on October 10th.

It happened after 8 o'clock Wednesday night on Walford Road in Warrensville Heights.  Police said two separate 9-1-1 calls were made that evening - one for a fight and another for an ambulance needed.  When Warrensville Heights police responded Wednesday to the fight, "Upon arrival, they did not find a fight anywhere," said Warrensville Heights Lt. Fred Kerling. 

What they found was an ambulance treating a teenager at another location.  When officers went to check on what was happening, police say they found Dorsey.  Witnesses said she was having "shortness of breath" and collapsed.

Dorsey was a junior at Warrensville High School and according to the school's website, a member the Lady Tigers softball team.

Although a person has been charged in the teenager's death some still questioned whether or not the teenager charged is the only one responsible.

"My heart would go out to any mother who has a kid," said DeAndre Clemons as she broke down in tears.  She cried Friday for a 16-year-old she never met.  Clemons' own 16-year-old daughter only knew Dorsey as an acquaintance, but what made the mother speak to us, in tears, is anger over what she says she heard about the incident.

Clemons says she saw posts on Facebook and Twitter that one of the teen's parents took her to the location of the fight.

The police report says a man identified as Dorsey's step-father was with the victim and her sister when Dorsey collapsed.  

Blanking-out his name, the report reads, "When I asked [blank] what Shaakira had been doing prior to talking on the lawn he became very evasive and would not provide any information.  As I spoke with [blank] Shaakira's mother [blank] arrived on scene.  She had not been notified of the situation but also confirmed Shaakira had no pre existing medical conditions."

Later the report reads, "I again spoke with [blank] about the events leading to Shaakira's collapse.  This time [blank] advised as he pulled in front of 4796 Walford Shaakira jumped from his cars back seat and ran behind an SUV  … [blank] then stated Shaakira and another girl emerged from behind the SUV fighting."

A 9-1-1 call from that night sounded, "At the end of my driveway, it's some kids fighting, and it's adults there watching ... it's adults, grown-ups there watching them fight."

Thursday at Warrensville Heights High School, officials said a moment of silence was planned for Dorsey before they began a football game.  The school's principal would not allow NewsChannel5 on school property.

On what happened, students and friends said they're just trying to cope with it all. 

"It's was just like dang, it was messed up for real," said Robert Thornton, a friend of the victim.

Clemons' daughter told us she knows Dorsey's same friends and said, "I know a lot of people are really hurt by it."
