AKRON, Ohio - UPDATE: The five Brecksville bridge bomb plot suspects will remain in custody pending judge's ruling. Both sides have until June 8 to file briefs.
-----------------
A federal judge is considering whether to release five suspects on bond ahead of their trial on charges alleging they plotted to bomb a bridge in northeast Ohio.
Prosecutors said before Wednesday's detention hearing in Akron that they opposed the release of the five men.
The government has described them as self-proclaimed anarchists. They have pleaded not guilty.
They were arrested in early May and accused of trying to detonate what was actually a fake explosive provided by someone working with the FBI. The highway bridge targeted by the alleged plot crosses the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, between Cleveland and Akron.
Attorneys for one of the suspects have sought to have him released on bond into a psychiatric unit at a state mental health care facility.
