BEDFORD, Ohio - Call it the Carylwood marathon.
Students at Carylwood Intermediate School in Bedford are participating in a walking marathon to help students at a school on Long Island that was hard hit by Hurricane Sandy.
"There are hundreds of students throughout the (Freeport Public School) district that are either unable to live in their homes right now, or who are living in very difficult conditions," Freeport teacher Bernadette Buckland said in an email to Carylwood.
"Many who are able to live in a part of their homes have lost all of their possessions in the bottom floors."
The Bedford students will walk the same distance as the New York Marathon, which was canceled because of the storm. However, they're doing the 26 miles or so in daily increments, a half-mile around the school grounds every day. It will take them about 52 days to complete.
In order to raise money for the hurricane victims, they need sponsors for each mile walked. If you would like to help, email their teacher Kim Rado at krado@bedford.k12.oh.us
