WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio - Warrensville Heights police confirmed a 16-year-old girl has died following a street fight.
According to Warrensville police, officers were called out Wednesday at about 8 p.m. for two juveniles fighting near the end of Walford Road of Emery Road. When officers arrived at the scene, the fight had broken up.
While touring the area, officers spotted paramedics, who had been called out for a female having shortness of breath. The patient had been one of the girls involved with the fight.
The paramedics transported the victim, Shaakira Dorsey, 16, to Ahuja Medical Center where she later died.
Warrensville Heights police detained a juvenile girl in connection with the altercation and brought her to the Warrensville Heights Police Department. She was later moved to a detention home.
The prosecutor's office will now determine if charges will be filed in the case.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will now determine the cause of death.
Warrensville Heights High School posted the following statement on its website:
"Warrensville Heights City School District is deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our student family, Shaakira Dorsey, who passed away on Wednesday evening. Shaakira was an eleventh grade student at the High School and a member of the Lady Tigers Softball Team.
We will follow our established procedures for this type of crisis. The Grief Counseling Team will be available in the High School throughout the remainder of the week and next week as well.
At this time, we are respecting her family's privacy and ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Details regarding arrangements will be shared at a later date."
