ASHTABULA, Ohio - Multiple residents reported seeing a black bear in Ashtabula Tuesday evening.
A woman told police she was at her aunt’s house in the 4800 block of Benefit Avenue when she saw a large, black bear in her aunt’s backyard garden.
She described the bear as “very big and black with a tan stout,” according to a police report.
The report says that others residents also reported spotting the bear between Kain Ave. and Benefit Ave. and Route 20 and West 47th Street.
Police said they were told by Wildlife Management that the bear was only scared and to leave him alone, unless he presented a risk to residents or getting into or destroying people’s property.
