CLEVELAND - The U.S. Marshals Service is using every tool possible to find accused murderer 27-year-old Nate Summerfield.
The agency became involved in the search once a search warrant for Summerfield was issued out of North Carolina.
"Once the warrant is issued, it gives the Marshals Service the ability to assist," said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal David Kasulones.
Summerfield is wanted in connection to the murder of his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer, whose body was found in Frisco, North Carolina by a construction worker on July 14. Summerfield and Jackenheimer's two children came back from a vacation in the Outer Banks, but the 33-year-old mother did not.
Summerfield was last seen leaving an Ashland ATM on July 8. Now, the U.S. Marshals Service is using every tool they have to track him down.
"A lot of database checks we use that people have, credit, vehicles, residences that they've used in the past. A lot of the investigation includes interviewing family members, friends and employers," explained Kasulones.
Summerfield was last seen driving a 2009 dark gray metallic 4-door Honda Civic, Ohio license plate FMV 7540. Marshals got a tip that a driver spotted him in Columbus. More tips of alleged Summerfield sightings came into the department on Wednesday.
Every year, the U.S. Marshals Service catches tens of thousands of people who are on the run. Many of those arrests are made possible with the help of the public.
Many people who live in Ashland and know the Jackenheimer family are trying to help track Summerfierld down as well. Some people spent Wednesday along I-71 handing out fliers at rest areas,
Megan Cooper said she handed out hundreds of fliers. She said there was so much hope Wednesday after someone said they spotted Summerfield in Columbus.
"We stopped at a couple rest stops," she said. "That way we can keep people informed."
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Nate Summerfield is asked to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-866-4-WANTED,1-866-492-6833, or text the word WANTED to 847-411.
