COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Police searched the city’s east side Tuesday night for the man accused of killing Ashland mother of two Lynn Jackenheimer.

Columbus police said a witness claimed they spotted 27-year-old Nate Summerfield and his car at an apartment complex near East Broad Street and Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road. Police cars swarmed the area, as a helicopter searched from the sky. Just before midnight, the active search ended, Columbus Police said.

The witness, who did not want to give her name for safety reasons, told Columbus TV Station WBNS that she was going to get her mail when she saw a man matching Summerfield's description next to a car by the mailboxes and a dumpster.

"The guy around it was acting a little weird," the witness said. "He was ducked down to the car next to it, messing with the license plate, which didn't look right,"

The woman says the license plate matched what she saw online and called police.

On Monday, the Dare County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina issued an arrest warrant for Summerfield for his ex-girlfriend's murder. The 33-year-old’s remains were discovered in a trash bag by a construction worker in North Carolina on Saturday, but were not positively identified until Monday afternoon.

"He treated her like a bag of garbage where he threw her and it wasn't right," said Jackenheimer's step-father, Raymond Johnson. "And I can't wait till they catch you, Nate, because that's the same treatment that you need. The same you did to my daughter Nate is coming back at you."

According to police, Jackenheimer, Summerfield, their 3-year-old son and Jackenheimer’s 13-year-old daughter went to Nags Head for vacation over the Fourth of July. On July 8, Summerfield dropped the children off with a family member and hasn't been seen since. Summerfield might be driving a dark gray Honda Civic with Ohio license plate FMV 7540.

"My brother was in North Carolina with his ex-girlfriend. He came back and said he strangled her, he dropped his kid off and left," said Summerfield's brother, Jake, told dispatchers more than a week ago.

Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughtie said Jackenheimer was strangled and stabbed to death.

"We're not sure what exactly was going on at the time of (Lynn's) death. The last place she was seen alive, that we can say, was at their rental cottage," Doughtie said, during a news conference.

"He (Nate Summerfield) dumped a bag of fertilizer on her (Lynn) to cover up the smell," Johnson said.

All of Summerfield's information has also been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a computerized index that allows law enforcement across the country to access his information. The U.S. Marshals are also involved in the search and there is a reward for information leading to Summerfield's arrest.
