ASHLAND, Ohio - The parents of wanted fugitive Nate Summerfield, who's accused of murdering Ashland mom Lynn Jackenheimer, are seeking custody of their 3-year-old son, Leland.

Jackenheimer's parents have had custody of the children, ages 3 and 13, since their daughter disappeared and was later found murdered. When the Jackenheimers went to Ashland Family Court Monday to request full custody of Leland, they learned the Summerfields are also petitioning to get full custody of the boy.

A family friend said the Jackenheimers "were completely shocked" when they saw the Summerfields in court.

"It was a complete surprise. They haven't even spoken to Lynn's family, given her an apology, condolences. They haven't tried to reach out to Nate to get him help. They haven't done anything."

Leland currently lives with Jackenheimer's parents, who already have full custody of her 13-year-old daughter who has autism.

"They were completely devastated by the news," the friend said.

The 33-year-old mother went on vacation with Summerfield, her estranged boyfriend, to the Outer Banks in North Carolina over the Fourth of July weekend and never returned home. Summefield came back with the children, dropped them off at a family friend's house and hasn't been seen or heard from since July 8.

A construction worker in Frisco, North Carolina found Jackenheimer's body in a bag on July 14. Police believe Summerfield killed her and is hiding out in Ohio.

"We're continuing to get tips every single day and we're following up on them. Nothing new has been discovered yet," said Drew Deserto, assistant chief with the US Marshals Service.

Most of the tips are coming from the Ohio area mainly because of the publicity, with the billboards and news reports.

"We've gotten a lot of look-alike tips, people think they see someone who looks like (Summerfield). We have a lot of people that know him, or knew him at some point, and are passing on information to us that may not be current, but it's still helpful," explained Deserto.

The Marshals Service has approached people who looked like Summerfield, but turned out not to be the 27-year-old fugitive.

"The more attentive people in the public are, the higher possibility we have of finding him. We're getting tips every day, unfortunately none of them have led to his location yet," said Deserto.

As for targeting other areas or states, Deserto said until they have reason to believe Summerfield isn't hiding out in Ohio, their focus continues to be in the Buckeye State.

If you see Summerfield, call 1-866-4-WANTED or text your tip to TIP411, keyword WANTED.
