FRISCO, N.C. - There was nothing left at the cul-de-sac along Salt Creek Court in Frisco, North Carolina, except reminders of tragedy and the mystery of the unknown. Family members frantically searching the area are still waiting to find out if the body discovered Saturday afternoon is 33-year-old Lynn Jackenheimer. The Ashland mother of two disappeared eight days ago after vacationing with her ex-boyfriend, Nate Summerfield, 27, in Nags Head, North Carolina.
Summerfield is also missing and had been labeled "a person of interest" in the case.
"We saw that a body had been found and we said, 'oh gosh. I hope it's not that lady," one resident told our NewsChannel5 crews at the scene.
"It's incredible this is a vacation place where we come every year and you never expect to hear anything like this down here, you know?" said one vacationer.
The unidentified body was found in bag about 30 minutes from where Jackenheimer was last seen. The Dare County Sheriff said because of the condition and position of the body, they couldn't tell if it is a male or female.
As the family watches and wonders if Jackenheimer has been found, a pathologist continues to determine who was found by a construction worker on Saturday.
If it is Jackenheimer, even more questions remain.
"Why did he choose to come down this far when there is so much between (Ohio) and here. And, how do you choose a place like that?" said a resident.
Another North Carolina resident added, "It's a shame. You feel for the family, but if the body isn't Lynn, then there's another family that is going to be involved in something."
Jackenheimer's two children were dropped off at a family friend's house on July 7 by Summerfield before police said he took off.
"We're doing the best we can. We're trying to cope and laugh about the memories we have of Lynn," said Jackenheimer's sister, Tasha Holland. "If the body found is not Lynn, we will continue our search."
