AKRON, Ohio - ODOT's District 4 is helping to train U.S. Army soldiers for future paving overseas.

Sergeant Chris Barnes and Sergeant Brian Huddleston, both of the U.S. Army met with ODOT District 4 engineers to discuss road paving techniques.

Barnes and Huddleston are both scheduled for deployment and will be assigned to roadway construction overseas possibly in Afghanistan, Pakistan or Iraq.

“We are very grateful for this opportunity to work with such skilled engineers prior to our deployment, and I am certain what we learned from ODOT will be beneficial to our work overseas,” said Sergeant. Barnes in a press release.

Both Sergeants received guidance from Anne Powell P.E., District Construction Engineer, and Geraldine Patman, Project Engineer for ODOT's District 4 who were able to walk the men through a current paving project.

Before they are deployed, Sergeants Barnes and Huddleston will have the opportunity to practice on a minor road outside of a training base in Wisconsin.
