CLEVELAND - Thousands of homes and businesses are still without power in northeast Ohio following superstorm Sandy. We're keeping tabs on the outages, closures and all-things Sandy that impact you.

Dozens of residents are awaking in Red Cross shelters, and many schools are closed for a third day.

Our crews are out and about, giving you updates on the damage and outages around town, plus other local Sandy related news:

8:28 p.m.: In Cleveland, there are still 1,000 Cleveland Public Power customers in the dark and 58 crews working to restore it. Full restoration is expected by Nov. 5.

8:25 p.m.: The emergency shelter in Mentor has been moved to the Fairport Harbor Senior Center at 1380 East Street. It is staffed by the Red Cross, and provides snacks and a place to recharge phones. It is not open for overnight stays.

7:02 p.m.: CEI said they expect power to completely be restored to Bedford, Middleburg Heights, East Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, Euclid by Sunday night.

5:55 p.m.: Cleveland Public Safety issues this reminder about never touching moving or going near downed or hanging power lines: http://5.wews.com/eXjpC.

5:48 p.m.: Lakewood Mayor Michael Summers said crews expect to get high voltage lines fixed on the Gold Coast by 8 a.m. Friday, but secondary lines still need repaired. On nearby Homewood Avenue, three new poles are needed and the material is arriving Thursday night. Repairs there will continue through Friday.

5:35 p.m.: Coast Guard finds dozens of sunken, damaged boats at Cleveland marinas from superstorm Sandy: http://5.wews.com/eXjgC.

5:20 p.m.: The Red Cross shelter in Avon Lake opens at 8 p.m. at St. Joe's Church, 32939 Lake Rd. If you don't have power and need a ride there, call (440) 933-4567 or (440) 933-8305. Pets aren't allowed.

5 p.m.: Current FirstEnergy outages: Cleveland 21,724; Lakewood 9,865; Parma 5,102; Bay Village 4,475.

4:30 p.m.: Bay Village Fire Department says 69 percent of the village is still without power. The day started with 77 percent in the dark. It's been "slow progress" and will be another "cold night," officials say.

3 p.m.: FirstEnergy power restoration progress: outage totals drop to 77,000 in Cuyahoga County and 22,300 in Cleveland.

2:25 p.m.: In Fairview Park, 80 percent of businesses are without power. The Red Cross has set up a major shelter for residents at Garfield Middle School in Lakewood, 13114 Detroit Rd. Bring your identification if you plan to stay the night.

2:10 p.m.: Fairview Park Mayor Eileen Ann Patton is going door-to-door handing out information. Still, 4,639 homes are without power. Residents without electricity are urged to go to the city's Gemini Center for heat, shelter and a shower.

2 p.m.: Baldwin Wallace University's Conservatory of Music cancels all Conservatory concerts and outreach events through the weekend.

1:40 p.m.: Critical assistance from Duke Energy crews from Cincinnati was delayed because they had to wait for high wind warnings in southern Ohio to be lifted before they could head to Lakewood and help with power restoration.

1:30 p.m.: Lake Avenue and Cove Avenue in Lakewood is expected to be closed all weekend. Dennis Kucinich issued a statement blaming the extended outage on FirstEnergy "incompetence."

1 p.m.: Latest FirstEnergy outage totals: 84,378 in Cuyahoga County, 24,475 in Cleveland and 9,910 in Lakewood.

12:55 p.m.: FirstEnergy tells 5 On Your Side Troubleshooter Joe Pagonakis that Lakewood and Rocky River were hit hard by outages due to their older tree stock. When lines are hit by limbs, they often have to be replaced and can't be reused.

12:45 p.m.: FirstEnergy says complete power restoration for Lakewood, Fairview Park and Avon Lake won't happen until Monday. Nov. 5 at midnight.

12:40 p.m.: Anyone without power in Willowick can enjoy a free pasta dinner at Dudley Park in the Field House Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If power isn't restored Friday, another dinner will be held at the same place and time.

12:15 p.m.: Bay Village Fire Department says 77 percent of homes are still without power. Utility crews are trying to get power restored as quickly as possible. "Significant progress will be made today" as more power crews arrive.

12 p.m.: Paul Kiska says Osborn Road is still closed west of Sutcliffe Drive in Bay Village. Lake Road still shut down at Cahoon in Bay Village.

11:30 a.m.: All roads in Parma that were closed from Sandy are back open, including Rockside Road east of Broadview Road.

High winds spinning off superstorm Sandy swiped Ohio early Tuesday,

uprooting trees, bringing down power lines and causing other havoc. Two people were killed in crashes on icy roads in northwest Ohio.

Much of the northeast is still struggling to recover from the devastating storm, which killed more than 70 people.
