I have received some very interesting stories from pet owners about their dogs and cats. Please keep sending them to me because I enjoy reading them along with all of the great pictures. This week's installment of Let's Get Catty is a very moving story about two cats who inspired their owner to keep on living life to the fullest.

Sam and Sarah are symbols of hope for their mom Barra. In her own words she shares how the two felines remain her source of strength,

Barra writes:

In April of 2008, at the age of 34, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, my ex husband and I had a 13 year old cat named Phoebe. About 2 weeks before my surgery in June of 2008, Phoebe passed away. It was very difficult on both of us as you can imagine. Not only were we dealing with my health issues we just lost our beloved animal.

Knowing I was going to be starting chemo in July of 2008 for 4 months, I thought about getting another kitten. I knew I was going to be on disability from work and I would be home alone most of time. I decided I should adopt a kitten. Then as I thought about it…..maybe I should get 2?

In July of 2008, we went up to Petsmart as Love a Stray from Avon brings cats up there to be adopted on Saturdays. Immediately, I found 2 kittens. One was a girl and one was a boy. I was very apprehensive on a boy cat. However, when I picked him up he was so sweet. It was love at first sight. He was all white on his belly and then orange on his face and back. His sister was beautiful. She was a very light tan and white color.  The names given to them were Dots for the boy and Runt-Runt for the girl. I knew a name change was on the horizon……….

I renamed them Sam and Sarah. Sam and Sarah brought me so much joy through a very difficult and painful time in my life. Going through chemo is not easy. Its tiring. It is grueling. However, these two made it easier on me. Whether is was them snuggling with me while I took a nap during the day or playing with them to keep my mind off of the pain and/or upset stomach I was feeling, they were always there for me……..unconditionally.

I am happy to report I am doing very well and as are Sam & Sarah. They are a 2 ½ years old now. Recently having gone through a divorce, they came with me through another difficult part my life. They have adjusted well to their new home and I love them more than ever.  Although I probably can not have children, I am very content with these two as long as they will have me. They put a smile on my face every single day.

 Life is good!

Barra, your story really touched my heart. I am so glad that you have Sam and Sarah to brighten your day. You're right, life is good!
