CLEVELAND - Everybody warned me about the "terrible 2s." They said Chase would become more active, more stubborn, strong-willed and a bit more talkative. Well I can definitely say they were right on all of the above. But, nobody told me about the 3s. So, I'm going to share what's been happening with Chase in the past month.
When Chase was 2 he didn't care about the details of his birthday party. As long as he was having fun and running his parents around, he was happy. But when Chase was about to turn 3, he told me he wanted a "Toy Story" party at school. That was fine with me. I can handle that. But then he kept on talking! He informed me that he wanted a second party later and he wanted a Batman cake.
And what did I do? I planned two parties that would happen in one day. Chase and his friends had a great time and had a good night's sleep laced with loud snoring.
If you think kids like to talk a lot at the age of 2, then wait until 3 comes knocking at your door. They talk non-stop. Chase's vocabulary has definitely changed. I hear things like, "Mommy that's disgusting," "Mommy this bacon is delicious," "Mommy can I go with you to the office," and my favorite "Mommy take a moment and breathe."
Driving with him in the car is a totally new experience now. He used to listen to songs that I like and he was perfectly fine. Now he tells me the songs he wants to hear. And since he's such a nice child he also tells me not to sing along.
And the most significant change is potty time. We ask him constantly if he has to go to potty. And since I am smarter than he gives me credit for, I make him go even when he tells me no. No more pampers! I'm happy to see them go. Chase on the other hand is just happy that he has Spiderman and Toy Story undies.
Yes, the land of 3 is quite interesting and never dull. Chase gives me lots of moments to remember and cherish until my dying day. He knows exactly when to turn on the charm and look at me with those big, warm eyes and say "Mommy I love you." That's when I melt like butter and have a one-minute episode of amnesia.
But then I hear my wonderful son banging on his new drum set, singing loudly the words to one of his favorite songs, "Live outloud, breathe outloud, love outloud!"
And when it comes to Chase most things are always loud!
