Missing man's body found at Put-in-Bay; homicide suspected

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio - Authorities in Put-in-Bay found the body of a 25-year-old man who had been reported missing earlier this week.

Phil Masterson, of Westlake, was found under a tarp in a wooded area on the island, according to the Toledo Blade.

Investigators have not yet released the official cause of death, but they are treating the death as suspicious, Ottawa County Sheriff Bob Bratton told the Blade.

Masterson’s body was located by his family near the Island Club Homes on Tuesday, and he was reported missing early Sunday morning, the Blade reported.

Large crowds were visiting the island during Labor Day Weekend for the end-of-summer festivities.
