CLEVELAND - Some northeast Ohio school districts are taking extra measures to protect children and aid police who are responding to school shootings.

At least 20 local schools districts have taken the extra step of enhancing their school floor plans through contracts with a private company specializing in school safety.

Foremost Safety Solution, located in Macedonia , creates highly visual, color-coded, digitized maps of often times rough sketches of school floor plans.

Ohio law requires school to submit floor plans to local law enforcement agencies, as well as the Ohio Attorney General's Office.

Foremost Safety Solutions said 136 individual schools in Cuyahoga and Summit counties have enhanced floor plans that can be accessed by local police who are responding to a shooting scene.

The level of detail is so great that it allows first responders to accurately view classrooms, hallways -- even closets that are individually numbered.

Police arriving at the scene can view the digitized floor plans from inside their police cruisers by accessing the data on onboard computers.

Here's a list of the local districts with the plans:

- Cleveland Metropolitan School District
- Westlake City School District
- North Olmsted City School District
- Olmsted Falls City School District
- Lakewood City School District
- Berea City School District
- Strongsville City School District
- Parma City School District
- North Royalton City School District
- Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District
- Independence Local School District
- Cuyahoga Heights Local School District
- Garfield Heights City School District
- Bedford City School District
- Nordonia City Schools
- Warrensville Heights City School District
- Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District
- South Euclid-Lyndhurst City School District
- Orange City School District
- Mayfield City School District

Roy Meadows said he created Foremost Safety Solutions to enable schools to have accurate floor plans that are up to date and easy to read.

"It's critical," said Meadows. "It needs to be done now. There's no more tomorrows."
