CLEVELAND - Some northeast Ohio police officers can access school floor plans on laptops in cruisers.
The Northfield Village Police Department is one example. Officers there can access school floor plans for every school in the Nordonia Local School District.
"They tell us the shooter is in one of the classrooms. They give us a classroom number and we can pull up on our screen what zone that's in," explained Northfield Village patrolman Warren Olesinski.
The digitized floor plans show every door, window, closet and point of entry for schools -- allowing police, who are responding to a possible active shooter incident, to quickly determine whether the shooter is located.
The computerized floor plans are developed by a Macedonia-based company called Foremost Safety Solutions.
