BEDFORD, Ohio - A worldwide manufacturer of life-saving drugs has temporarily suspended operations just two days after a Five On Your Side investigation revealed problems at the plant.
Ben Venue Labs in Bedford reported on Monday that it will suspend manufacturing and distribution of all drug products. In a news release, the company said this is a voluntary and temporary suspension.
But NewsChannel5 Chief Investigator Ron Regan’s investigation revealed that FDA inspectors were inside the plant last May and found numerous quality control issues. They found stainless steel particles in drugs, workers not using sanitized gloves and bacterial contamination. The findings were detailed in a 33-page report after nearly two weeks of inspections.
The company now said an internal review indicates routine preventive maintenance of equipment did not occur at specified times and is overdue. Ben Venue Labs also said it has notified global regulatory agencies and the FDA.
